nano marine
dry-docking and retrofit specialists
Who we are?
We are a team of highly experienced naval architects and marine engineers who are passionate about assisting clients with their dry-docking and retrofit projects. Our diverse technical team comprises engineers with a minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in shipyards, for ship owners and managing companies, class societies, and engineering design companies, all with a focus on ship dry-docking and retrofit projects. Our core strength in the maritime retrofit sector is our proven track record in delivering large, complex projects.
What we do?
At Nano Marine Limited, we recognise the importance of flexibility in meeting our clients' needs. Leveraging our expert staff and years of experience, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including:
Full dry-dock project management, in which Nano Marine Limited manages a retrofit project from start to finish, including pre-docking vessel inspection, dry-docking specification preparation, tender analysis, project execution, on-site supervision, and project delivery.
Exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and ballast water treatment system (BWTS) retrofit supervision, in which Nano Marine Limited provides on-site supervision to support our clients.
Turnkey projects, in which Nano Marine Limited purchases class-approved materials, system equipment, outfitting, and fire safety components and completes production in our workshops in Istanbul/Turkey before shipping worldwide. The size of turnkey projects can vary from a few pieces of equipment foundations to a full BWTS deck house production.
How we work?
We take great pride in our outstanding customer satisfaction and experience at Nano Marine Limited. Our values and guiding principles enable us to consistently deliver exceptional repeat services to the majority of our clients. We achieve this by working collaboratively with our clients and partners, guided by the following principles:
We have no technical or commercial agreements with any shipyard in the world, nor do we receive any commission from any shipyard or company in the world. This means we can operate independently and with full transparency, supporting clients with market-leading analysis and guiding them in the best possible direction. Nano Marine Limited acts solely as the owner's agent, working in the owner's best interests.
We only accept projects if the scope of the project is within the proven capabilities of our team and if we are 100% certain that we can deliver the project on time, within budget, and with the best quality achievable.
Gaining our clients' trust is at the heart of everything we do. We take pride in our commitment to taking on and delivering projects without sacrificing quality. That's why we only work with the best people in the industry, who have unrivalled sector knowledge and experience, and consistently deliver high performance.

Preparation
Dry-Dock Specification Preparation and Tender Analysis
The quality of dry-dock specifications and tender analysis is one of the key items that can make a dry-dock or retrofit project either a success or a disaster. Shipping companies have experienced so many projects where the specifications were poorly prepared, and the cost comparison was not done properly due to numerous reasons, ultimately resulting in failed projects. When the specifications and tender analysis are not evaluated correctly, there is a major risk that additional jobs (often with significant hidden costs) will be discovered when the vessel is in the shipyard, and vessel owners will lose significant:
Money (direct and indirect)
Time (time in the shipyard and waiting for spares)
Negotiation power (when the vessel is in the shipyard, shipyards can charge inflated prices)
Number of tradable days in the dry-dock year
Potential savings if spares are ordered in advance, such as turbocharger spares
We have no technical or commercial agreement with any shipyard in the world, and we do not receive any commission from any shipyard/company in the world. Therefore, we can operate independently with full transparency. We support clients with market-leading analysis and lead them in the best possible direction.
Nano Marine Limited team achieves the best results of dry-docking by:
Providing a dedicated in-house team of multi-experienced specialists who work with the clients, superintendents and vessel crew to ensure all objectives are met in the most cost-effective way.
Utilising Nano Marine Limited services, knowledge, established procedures, and robust specification templates to maximise the return of the client's investment through processed risk assessment dry-dock execution.
Acting as the owner's agent and in the owner's best interests only
An accurate specification is created through segregating works into the following sections (not limited to): Accommodation upgrades, Class items, Defects, Electrical, Full/Spot Coating of Hull/Tanks/Holds/Decks/Accommodation, Machinery, Modifications, Navigation Equipment, Outfitting, Owner's Arranged Services, Regular Dry-Dock Works, Retrofits, Safety Equipment, Standard Tariff Items, Structure/Steel/Piping, Upgrades.
Execution and On-Site Supervision
Whether the dry-dock specification and tender analysis are completed by Nano Marine Limited or any other stakeholder, we are always ready to take responsibility and support our clients with the best possible approach. We can take a leading or supportive role as the clients prefer.
Superintendents are technically responsible for managing four vessels on average worldwide. Planning and attending a dry-docking project can add additional responsibilities on top of the daily management tasks that are already a challenge to complete.
Traveling thousands of kilometres to attend the project, arranging all technicians, spares, communication with class, daily/weekly meetings with different stakeholders, ongoing project issues, unexpected issues, daily reports, cost control, keeping senior management informed, and many other tasks are added on top of the daily superintendent's tasks. If the technical office has no backup, then it will likely become overwhelming for a single person to complete in a day.
It is also not uncommon that multiple vessels under the management of the same superintendent are being docked at the same time in different parts of the world.
Or simply, the superintendents may need support because the dry-docking project is too big with many vessel modifications, coating, steel, and pipe works, and they do not want to lose control before it is too late. We understand our client's needs well and work with them to support them and increase efficiency and productivity.
Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Retrofit Supervision
We have expert project managers, each of whom has completed a minimum of 20 exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) retrofit projects on behalf of ship owners/managers, as well as system manufacturers. We can independently review design projects from both installation and operation perspectives and provide feedback to customers. Design companies often overlook the importance of operations on-board after installation is completed. We can evaluate the design and ensure that the crew can operate the system effectively without risking their safety on-board.
We also supervise on-site tasks, ensuring that installations are completed smoothly. Superintendents may be busy with regular dry-dock items, so we provide professional services to support them with these major retrofit projects.
Ballast Water Treatment System Retrofit Supervision
We have expert project managers, each of whom has completed a minimum of 10 ballast water treatment system (BWTS) retrofit projects on behalf of ship owners/managers, as well as system manufacturers. In addition, we have team members who have worked on the design stage of BWTS projects, bringing technical diversity to the subjects we can support our clients with. We not only supervise the projects from an installation point of view, but we can also evaluate the design aspects of the projects.
Manufacture and Ship Worldwide
We have class-approved facilities in Istanbul, Turkey, with the full capability to manufacture any type or size of marine retrofit projects. Our facilities can offer full turnkey solutions to ship owners and managers. We can purchase class-approved materials, system equipment, outfitting, and fire safety components on behalf of our clients and complete production in our workshops before shipping worldwide.
This approach provides
Flexibility for ship owners and managers to select any shipyard in the world without being limited by shipyard quotations or timelines.
Time savings for the superintendent and purchasing officers by handing over time-consuming tasks, such as material purchase, class visits, shipping arrangements, etc., to Nano Marine Limited.
Significant cost savings by receiving all-inclusive quotations. Shipyards tend to provide quotations with unit prices, which are often not clear and subject to change until the completion of projects. Our aim is to provide simple but technically detailed all-inclusive quotations so our clients know what they will pay at the beginning of the project.
In certain cases, shipyard facilities may not even be required, as a riding team arranged by Nano Marine Limited or ship owners/managers can complete the installation either in an anchorage area or during sailing, which reduces costs significantly.
Reduced installation time on-board by completing production in our facilities and making it ready in the shipyard for installation. So the vessels spend a minimum time in the shipyard and get back to trading as quickly as possible.
